Alyssa Lock is a name synonymous with the Snapper Rocks surf break. She started surfing & competing there at age 6, in her time since, has accumulated  12x Snapper club titles and has gone on to represent the club on many successful occasions.

While the focus for 2017 has been on her final year of school, a maiden Australasian Pro Junior win in WA and runner up place overall for the  Australasian Pro Junior series has gained her a much sought after start in the upcoming  Pro Junior World Titles.

However, the highlight of the year so far has been  Alyssa winning the Roxy Pro Trials and reaching her goal and dream of Surfing in the Main Event of the Roxy Pro and did so still at age 16.

Wright surfed a near flawless heat for a combination of 17.50, but Lock held her own with a strong 12.33.
“Tyler had a great combo and I know more of what it takes to be number one now and that’s what I want to be,” Lock said.
“It’s made me want to get on tour even more now.”

Ending 2016 as the Australian Open Womens Champion, having also taken out Australia’s premium u16 events, The SkullCandy Oz Grom Open & Occy Grom Comp, Alyssa had a great year.

She was ecstatic after the 2016 Australian Open Titles win. “I’m speechless, this feels amazing. This win will be something I remember for a few years to come,” said Lock. (Surfing Australia) & after her win at Lennox Head earlier in the year Alyssa spoke to Surfing Nsw. “ I am one happy girl right now backing up my Occy Grom Comp win last week by winning the 16 Girls Final at the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open today. After competing in grom comps from the age of 7 these wins were super special as they were my last grom comps ever ”

Additionally, taking the 2016 u21s Volcom TCT Nationals & State were fantastic results adding to her podium placings in Subway Pro Jrns. However, it was Alyssa’s 3rd Place in the Pro Jrnr held in Cabo Mexico that she was so happy about as it was her first overseas competition and an event that had a true international field of the worlds best junior female surfers .

Completing the chapter of her u16 years with such success will come as no surprise to those who have followed her career which has included, State Titles, Rip Curl Grom Search’s & National Ratings Champion, Subway Events, Occy Groms, Billabong Grom Cup, Parko Grom, Regional Titles, 4x Barton Lynch Blast Offs & many other wins in u14 & u16 competitions on the Australian competitive circuit. Teams events have always been a favourite for Alyssa and she has won multiple national teams titles including the MR Shield Pairs & the National Surf Tag as well as having been a member of successful Snapper teams in major events.

By the age of 8 Alyssa was winning u14s competitions and by 9 she had proved beyond a doubt that those results were no fluke. Surfing beyond her years continued with many results and accolades along the way. Age 10 and 11 included state titles and National Rip Curl Grom Search 14s  Ratings Champion.

At the age of 12 Alyssa also became the youngest ever Roxy Pro Trialist having been granted a position to surf at her home break with only 3 other surfers out, something she had never experienced at what is known as one of the most crowded breaks on the planet. She also  won the Occy Grom 14s, took out the 16s & 14s divisions of the All Girls Showdown (achieved only by two other girls in the comps 20 year history – Steph 2002 / Laura Enever 2005) Placed 1st in dual divisions of the Wollongong Wahu, Won the Barton Lynch Blast Off for the 4th consecutive year, the 12s Rip Curl Grom Search NSW (Cronulla) + QLD (Coolum) and performed consistently across many other events.

When she was 13 amongst other achievements, Alyssa won both the u19 NSW & Australian MR Shield Title, also achieving 2nd place for NSW in the u16 Australian All Stars pairs
